Pentwater, MI One of the classic burgers at Clyde's. This one was eaten just across the bridge in St. Ignace, by Amy, one day for breakfast. Clyde's Drive-In. One in St. Ignace, one in Sault Ste Marie, and one in Manistique. All are now independently owned and operated, but still have very similar menus, featuring classic burgers, fries and shakes. Van Dusen was just 19 years old when he opened his first Clyde's. He leased the land from the city, hand dug a water line, and opened a tiny building to start serving hamburgers out of.
Eventually, Van Dusen purchased the property, and built the building that still stands there today. Van Dusen expanded to Manistique next, and then St. Ignace, bringing his famous griddled burgers to even more fans. Van Dusen passed away in at the age of 90, having technically owned the Soo location right up until his death. His nephew Bob Spencer now runs the drive-in, leasing the building from Van Dusen's children. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
